Dogwood Acres Campground has helped many charities
during its 39 year history. Since our
purchase of the campground in 2001, charity fundraisers
have become annual events. Our seasonal campers chose
Ronald McDonald House Charities
as the primary recipient of our efforts. We contacted
the nearest house, in Hershey, PA, and spoke with Kathy
Denton, its Executive Director. She explained how, if a
child were to become ill and be admitted to Penn State
Children’s Hospital for treatment, the parents could
stay right across the street in temporary housing at no
cost to the family. They would get support, hot meals,
and a private bedroom. |

Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Wall of Fallen
Heroes |
Our campground got on
board! We saved aluminum cans that we recycled for
money, we held auctions, sold everything from chicken
corn soup and chili to lottery calendars, and held
carnivals. Our 2009 carnival was held on August 15th.
With support from our seasonal campers, we pulled
together and raised $5,000.00 more than we had pledged
to Amy Leonard, the Event Coordinator at Ronald McDonald
House. She helped us successfully coordinate this
awesome event. Our goal was $20,000.00, but when the
carnival was over, we had raised a total of $25,000.00.
And that was just for 2009! From 2002 to 2009, we have
raised over $47,568.00 just for Ronald McDonald House
Charities. We are very proud that our Dogwood Acres
family and friends have been a small part of helping out
this worthy charity.

An expansion is currently underway, and we have been
part of the “Room to Grow” campaign. With our
contribution, a new guest room is under construction
along with a tribute/memorial bench in Dogwood Acres’
name. The full expansion will include another 15
bedrooms so that at least 750 more families per year may
be accommodated. We are proud to have been a part of
this expansion.

In 2009, in addition to the $25,000.00 which we raised
for
Ronald McDonald House Charities,
we also raised $4,031.00 for breast cancer research,
$800.00 for the
Pennsylvania Council of Churches,
and $450.00 for the Wall of Fallen Heroes.

We hope that you will join us this year and be a part of
our efforts on behalf of the community to which we all
belong. |
